Getty ImagesThe All-Star break is an excellent chance to take a look at the season so far and evaluate what has happened. Fortunately, a lot of things have transpired for all teams that may not have been expected before the season started. Here is a list of nuggets for each team in the Eastern Conference:
Boston Celtics
Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum are the only two players to be averaging over 25 points per game for the same team in the Eastern Conference.
The two would actually be the first pair to accomplish the feat in Boston since the 1986-87 season when Larry Bird and Kevin McHale did it. They should be able to achieve the goal as long as they don’t play against each other.
Milwaukee Bucks
Giannis Antetokounmpo is currently averaging 13 free throws per game. He will become the 4th player ever to accomplish that statistic and the first in over 20 years if he is able to continue his dominant play.
You know it’s a big deal whenever you get the chance to be on a statistical list with the likes of Wilt Chamberlain, Shaquille O’Neal, and Elgin Baylor. It could be good enough for him to capture his 3rd MVP trophy.
Philadelphia 76ers
Tyrese Maxey is only one of two bench players in the NBA to average over 15 shots per game.
This is cheating a little bit because he has more games that he has started, but we’ll allow it. The 76ers are 17-5 since Maxey returned from his injury in January. He has started a few games since, but has come off the bench in 14 of the past 15 games. If they continue the trend it’s quite possible he snatches the Sixth Man of the Year award.
Cleveland Cavaliers
Evan Mobley leads the NBA in defensive win shares with 3.6.
Mobley was routinely criticized to begin the season for having a sophomore slump. Most pointed to his increasingly puzzling shooting from deep, yet it was forgotten how destructive of a defensive force he is in the NBA. His offense continues to perk up, but it is his intimidation at the rim that has been the driving force behind Cleveland becoming the 3rd best defense in the league.
Brooklyn Nets
Joe Harris can become the 6th player in NBA history to have at least five seasons in which he hits over 42 percent of his 3-pointers while taking at least four attempts per game.
Harris has developed into a lights-out shooter during his time in Brooklyn, even though he has a tendency to fly under the radar. He still remains and he is more than capable of posting another historic shooting season.
New York Knicks
The Knicks are the only team in the NBA that has at least three players (RJ Barrett, Jalen Brunson, Julius Randle) that are averaging over five free throws per game.
There were three other teams that had players that would qualify if you rounded up, but by the letter of the law they just missed out on making the list. This is a reflection of how the Knicks have made a living in the paint with their physical play style.
Miami Heat
They are the only team in the conference that is in the top-five in offense or defense, and in the bottom-five in offense or defense.
The Heat are an enigma this season. They are cycling through injuries and can’t seem to manufacture any consistency. The putrid offense is being offset by a defense that continues to make them a threat come playoff time.
Atlanta Hawks
Trae Young is ranked 49th out of 51 in 3-point percentage for players that are averaging over 6 attempts per game.
Young takes a variety of different 3-point shots that hurts his efficiency, but this is still a troubling sign for a designated marksman. It’s one of the many reasons the Hawks have underperformed this season.
Washington Wizards
Kristaps Porzingis has the 9th best true shooting percentage in the league for players that are averaging over 15 shot attempts per game.
The list of players ahead of him is pretty impressive. Porzingis is having his best season in the NBA and is finally healthy enough to take advantage. He should be able to secure a pretty payday in free agency during the summer.
Toronto Raptors
The team has the 2nd best attendance in the league, which would be the highest ranking in team history.
The Raptors have been disappointing, but the fans continually show the team support. It has a good chance of staying that way after they decided not to sell at the deadline.
Chicago Bulls
The Bulls have the 6th best defense in the NBA.
This seems simplistic but a team with the offensive stardom of the Bulls being that good on defense is incredible. Just don’t ask how they are doing on the other side of the ball.
Indiana Pacers
Indiana is outplaying their preseason over/under projection by the greatest margin in the Eastern Conference.
The Pacers started off so well that they seemed to be a serious contender for one of the top six seeds for the playoffs. Unfortunately, Haliburton injuring his knee was the first domino to fall that led to them losing 16 of their last 20 games.
Orlando Magic
Gary Harris is second in the NBA in 3-point percentage.
To qualify for the top slot he’ll need to hit 27 more 3-pointers (Yuta Watanabe leads the NBA right now and also needs to hit some more shots before the end of the season). One of the reasons Harris got traded from Denver was because of his poor shooting. Him becoming the top player in the league in the category, just a couple of years later, would be a major moment for him.
Charlotte Hornets
The Hornets take the third most shots in the league at the rim.
They are a horrendous offensive team that has this one shining light of a strength. The construct of the team will likely look different next year, but it is a footnote to be aware of.
Detroit Pistons
They lead the league in free throw attempts.
It’s rare to see a team stand atop the leaderboard in free throw attempts when they sit at the bottom of the standings. Actually, a team with less than a .250 winning percentage hasn’t taken over 27 free throw attempts per game since the 2000-01 season. They should be in even better shape when Cade Cunningham returns next year.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the average salary of NBA players?
The NBA's average salary is $7.3million for the 2021-2022 NBA season. This figure is based on the maximum allowed salary cap of $134 million, which was set for this season. However, individual players' salaries can vary greatly depending on their experience and accomplishments.
Superstar players like LeBron James and Kevin Durant can earn up to $40 million a year, while rookies may make as little as the minimum salary of $898,310. Based on years of experience, veteran players might be eligible for mid-level exception salary ranges from $4.76million to $9.258m. Players may also be eligible for bonuses and other incentives based on their performance or team success.
What is a restricted-free agent in NBA?
A restricted free NBA agent is a player that has completed their rookie deal and becomes an unlimited free agent. Rights are still held by the previous team. In this situation, the team has the right to match any offer sheet another team gives to the player. If they decide to do so, the player will remain with their former team and must honor their existing contract. This allows teams to retain players who have proven themselves valuable in the past but may not be able to afford them under their current salary cap. Restricted-free agents are a type that allows teams to have a lot of flexibility when creating their rosters.
What team is the most successful NBA team ever?
The answer to this question can be subjective and will likely remain a topic of debate for years. Los Angeles Lakers and Boston Celtics hold the most NBA championships with 17 titles. Chicago Bulls enjoyed their peak in the 1990s when six titles were won under Hall of Fame coach Phil Jackson. Five titles have been won by San Antonio Spurs, while the Golden State Warriors claimed four in the past decade. The Philadelphia 76ers in the 1980s, Kobe-Shaq Lakers in the 2000s and LeBron James's Miami Heat team, which won back-to-back NBA championships 2012 and 2013, are just a few other notable NBA teams.
What is the biggest rivalry in the NBA?
The NBA's most fierce rivalry is held by Los Angeles Lakers and Boston Celtics.
With 12 meetings, the Boston Celtics and Los Angeles Lakers have been together the most of any NBA Finals teams. The Celtics won nine of those meetings. Their first meeting was in 1959, but they both continued to excel in the following years, especially during the 1960s and 1980s, when they would face each other six times and three, respectively. They still met twice in that same year, despite the fact that 2000 was a new millennium.

Are NBA players compensated for their injuries?
NBA players with guaranteed contracts are entitled to their entire salary, even if they are disabled or injured. Some have even earned millions without even playing a game. Their contract may be terminated or they could lose their bonuses. Players with non-guaranteed contracts will not usually receive any payment until they become healthy enough to return to the NBA. However, the NBA can help with payments for disability or a lump amount settlement for those who meet the criteria. There is no guarantee that you will get paid if you are injured. Additionally, teams and the league may assist those in need on a case-by-case basis.
A team can also offer some assistance through the Injury Disability Plan. Ultimately, it depends on the individual and his team's situation. Sometimes players can negotiate with their teams to get some money while they are out of town due to injury. Although there are no guarantees regarding payment, players should understand that the league and their team can assist them. Each situation should be considered as an individual. The NBA has established a set of rules that govern injuries and payments to players for absences due to injury. This will help players understand the rules and make informed financial decisions. For any questions or concerns, it is important that you consult a professional.
